Experience:
Tony joined MACTODD in September 2008 bringing over thirty years experience to the running of the firm’s Wanaka office. He graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Laws in 1974 and has relocated to the South Island after 15 years as a partner in a law firm in the Bay of Islands.
Tony specialises in Resource Management and Local Government law and his extensive background in advising local authorities throughout the country, including Wellington City, Auckland City and other Auckland bodies, the Northland Regional Council and the Far North District Council, spans 30 years.
In his role with MACTODD he is closely involved with local authorities in the region, in particular the Queenstown Lakes District and Central Otago District Councils. His local authority work covers a diverse range of subjects including community plans, and rates and reserves issues. Tony is lead counsel on the Queenstown Lakes District Council's plan change 24 - Affordable Housing.
Tony acts for private clients on local government issues, appears regularly before the Environment Court and is a Hearings Commissioner.
Tony is an avid yachtsman, and he and his wife Leanne and two daughters recently undertook a challenging journey from Europe to New Zealand, in their own yacht. He has also competed several times in the prestigious Sydney to Hobart race. He enjoys the Wanaka outdoor environment, and with his family is involved in a variety of sporting activities including cycling and skiing.
