Experience:
Tanya, who graduated from Victoria University with an LLB and BA (politics and sociology) in 1996 and was admitted to the bar the following year, joined MACTODD as a barrister and solicitor in 2008, after a decade working in liquor licensing roles in Wellington and Queenstown.
Her skills gained as an Investigating Officer with the Liquor Licensing Authority in Wellington, and as Principal Liquor Licensing inspector with the Queenstown Lakes District Council, have provided her with extensive experience in dealing with local government legislation, bylaws and council policies as well as aspects of criminal law.
In her role with MACTODD Tanya is a member of the litigation team and is involved chiefly in civil litigation work on behalf of the Queenstown Lakes District Council. She also acts for several private clients and this work, which offers her a fresh, challenging direction, is providing her with a new set of skills in a well established law practice.
She represents clients in the liquor licensing industry in areas outside Queenstown offering expertise, gained from her many years as an inspector, to licensees requiring specialist advice and representation.
Tanya has a strong involvement in the community and is currently Chairperson of the Wakatipu District Youth Trust, a non profit organisation providing advocacy and support services for young people in the district. She is a volunteer biographer for Hospice Southland and a volunteer advisor for the Central Otago Budget Advice Service.
Tanya has a passion for the arts and is President of the Queenstown Film Society and a member of the Queenstown Shakespeare and Creative Queenstown committees.
She has recently taken up Bikram yoga and is part of a creative writing group and a local book club. Tanya is also learning Spanish and hopes to travel to Europe and South America in the future. Education:
